It's Director Bala's Birthday - the man who gave us Sethu, Naan Kadavul and now Naachiyaar

Bala Pazhanisammy, the director who once stunned the Tamil audience with unconventional films like Sethu, Nanda, Pithamagan, Avan Ivan, Paradesi, turns 50 today. Known for his realistic, dark and disturbing depiction of the working class on celluloid, Bala as he is mononymously known fetched the National Award twice - one for Sethu under the best feature film category and the other for his direction in Naan Kadavul. The director is also responsible for reviving the careers of today's A-list actors like Suriya and Vikram by giving them their big breaks in Nanda and Sethu respectively. 

His last venture Thaarai Thappatai may not have left much of an impression but the director looks hopeful with his upcoming project Naachiyaar. With Jyothika playing a cop, GV Prakash in a grey role and thriller as the genre, Naachiyaar is nothing short of intriguing prospects. The film has completed 80 % of its shooting and is expected to begin a schedule in Tanjore soon.
