Actor-director Sundar C's sudden leap into politics has stirred up a storm, and Prakash Raj has made his displeasure very clear. Campaigning in Madurai, Prakash Raj launched a sharp verbal salvo against Sundar C, who has been announced as a candidate for the Madurai Central constituency representing Puthiya Neethi Katchi (PNK) under the NDA alliance with the AIADMK for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu state assembly elections.
Questioning the abruptness of the decision, Prakash Raj pointed out that Sundar C was actively on a film set just three days before his candidacy was announced. "Until three days ago, he was on the shooting spot, directing movies. Suddenly, when you were announced as a candidate, were you yourself surprised or not?" he asked pointedly.
He further questioned Sundar C's political credibility, noting that the filmmaker had never publicly taken a stand on issues concerning Madurai, Tamil Nadu, or Indian politics at large. "You presented an image of being a talented filmmaker and when your name was announced out of the blue, would you switch to a politician's attire and immediately have the desire of being an MLA?" he challenged.
Prakash Raj also took a dig at the alliance itself, questioning the principles of Puthiya Neethi Katchi and its tie-up with BJP, a party he suggested has little electoral ground in the region. He went a step further by drawing a comparison with his own wife Khushbu, a seasoned politician who has been active in politics for over a decade and is yet to secure an MLA seat herself.
