Vishal Samar Songs Review - Yuvan Uninspired!

Vishal Samar Music Review

"Samar" set mostly in Bangkok is second in line from the "Theeratha Vilayatu Pillai" team constituting director Thiru, Vishal and Yuvan Shankar Raja. The movie also has Trisha, Sunaina and Manoj Bajpai playing key roles in the movie. The album has 5 songs with 4 of them in highly familiar situations seen many times in Tamil movies -- one Hero Intro song praising his virtues, one heroine intro song praising only her beauty, one duet love song with hero and heroine and finally one titillating Club item song.

 Oru Kannil Vaegam

Singers: K.G. Ranjith, Naveen Madhav, Suchitra, Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Oru kannil Vegam is the title track (samaran) probably recorded before the title change. The song praises the exemplary virtues of hero and could very well be the introduction song. The lyrics, music follows a similar pattern that you may have already seen in "Karka Karka" from Vettaiyadu Vilayadu. Overall, this is a fast paced song aimed at furthering Vishal's image.

 Azhagho Azhaghu

Singers: Naresh Iyer, Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

This is an uncomplicated melody number excellently rendered by Naresh Iyer. It is easily the pick of the album and expect this number to stay up in the charts and FM radios. The song was an instant hit immediately after the music album release. The song has catchy beats with graceful lyrics by Na. Muthukumar. This is probably the introductory song picturized beautifully on Trisha.

 Poikkaal Kuthirai

Singers: Yuvan Shankar Raja, Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Yuvan has sung this song in his characteristic style with some doctored voice to kick-off the opening lines. The song has some psychedelic music and repetitive techno loops. The song may have a purpose in the movie. One may appreciate Yuvan's experimentation in this song. But, the song may not get you addicted.

 Rajaavin Thoattathil

Singers: K.G. Ranjith, Rita, Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

This song is yet another templatized club item song with familiar beats and raunchy singing by Rita. The lyrics written by Na. Muthukumar are meaningless with random assembly of familiar phrases one would expect to hear in this genre of 'item' Tamil songs.

 Vellai Maiyil

Singers: Shweta Mohan, Udit Narayan, Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Vellai Maiyil's first few seconds may seem to have faint resemblance to "Minsaaram En Meethu" from Run. Beyond that, the song follows its own pattern. As always, Udit Narayan may annoy you with his Tamil diction. The song is the only duet song and fails to impress.

Final Say

Only "Azhago Azhagu" provides a reason to turn to this album. Otherwise, this is a highly uninspired album from Yuvan coming on the heels of his excellent "Moondru Per Moondru Kadhal" released just a few days back.

Music Album Rating - 5/10
