Sometimes even the worst happen for the good. In hindsight the debacle of Sura seems to have done more good than harm to Vijay and his fans. The actor's choice of scripts and directors seem to have undergone a sea change. And the results show.

Vijay is an absolute delight in Thuppakki. If you thought he looked young and refreshing in Nanban, he looks dashing here. He seems to be ageing in the reverse. There are numerous dialogues in Hindi and English and he seems to be at ease in delivering them. There is not a single punch dialogue but still there numerous scenes that will have his fans go crazy.

Vidyut Jamal as his nemesis is as powerful as the hero. Kajal is bubbly as usual. Sathyan's is more of a supporting role and he is not there merely for comic relief. Jayaram's comic antics are well known and you however do feel that his track could have been a bit shorter.

The way Santosh Sivan has shot the crowded scenes in the streets of Mumbai is amazing. The look and feel of the film is as good as a hollywood actioner. The stunt sequences in Thuppakki are of the highest order.

Harris Jeyaraj's tunes always remind us of some of his previous works. That said you can't deny the fact that they are still enjoyable and the masses seem to be hooked to them. ‘Alaika’ and ‘Google’ seem to be perfect for Vijay to put on his dancing shoes. The costume designing department deserves the richest praise because this is another reason why Vijay looks so good on screen.

Murugadoss magic works in Thuppakki. The man has made sure that while Vijay fans have a treat and the neutral audiences too would have their money worth. The one upmanship between Vijay and Vidyut with each surpassing the other at various places in the movie makes it an engaging watch.

There are a few minor glitches though. At least one song could have been done away with. Also after an interesting battle all the way, the climax encounter between Vijay and the villain looks a little shallow. But the last five minutes which speaks about the greatness of army men more than makes up for it. The 'Poi Varava' song with its remarkably good lyrics enhances the feel of this heart touching episode.

Bottomline: Thuppakki is the best action entertainer to have come out of Kollywood in recent years. This gun is sure to fire on all cylinders at the box office.

இதோ இப்போ வெடிக்குது, அப்போ வெடிக்குதுன்னு ஒரு வாரமா டென்சன் கிளப்பிகிட்டிருந்த துப்பாக்கி ஒரு வழியா தீபாவளிக்கு வெடிச்சிருச்சு.. நம்ம இளைய தளபதி விஜய், காஜல் அழகுவால் சாரி, அகர்வால் நடிச்சு முருகதாஸ் அண்ணன் இயக்கி வெளிவந்திருக்கும் படம்.

விடுமுறைக்கு வரும் ராணுவ வீரர் விஜய், மும்பையில் பரவியிருக்கும் தீவிரவாதிகளின் கொட்டத்தை அடக்கி அவர்களின் திட்டத்தை தவிடுபொடியாக்கி அதன் வேர் வரை வெட்டி எறிவதே கதை. மும்பை தொடர் குண்டுவெடிப்பை பற்றிய கதை என்றாலும், காதல், நட்பு, தேசம், தியாகம், வில்லனின் வியுகத்தை உடைப்பது, ஹீரோவின் அடுத்த செயலை வில்லன் கணிப்பது.. வில்லனுக்கு தன் தங்கையையே பணயக் கைதியாக அனுப்பி வைப்பது என காட்சிக்கு காட்சி திருப்பங்கள்.

ஹீரோ விஜய் - ஹேர்ஸ்டைல் மாற்றம் (மிலிட்டரி கட்), கதைக்கு தேவையான நடிப்பை மட்டும் கொடுத்திருப்பது, கதாப்பாத்திரத்திற்கு ஏற்றவாறு தன் உடல் மொழி மற்றும் உச்சரிப்பையும் கொடுத்திருப்பது பாராட்டத் தகுந்தது (குறிப்பாக பன்ச் டயலாக் எதுவும் இல்லாதது ஆறுதல்) விஜயின் சிறந்த பத்து படங்களில் இதுவும் ஒன்றாக இருக்கும். விஜய்க்கு சரிசமமாக நடித்திருப்பது வில்லன் வித்யுத் ஜமால் (பில்லா 2 ல டிமித்ரியா வந்தாரே, அவரே தான்.) பொருத்தமான கதாப்பாத்திரம். மிரட்டலான நடிப்பு. கிளைமாக்ஸ் காட்சியில் விஜய் ஜெயிக்கிறார்.

காஜல் அகர்வால், அழகுப் பதுமை வேடம். அம்மணி அட்டகாசமாய் வந்து போகிறார். எல்லோருக்கும் இது போல் ஒரு காதலி இருந்தால் நன்றாக இருக்குமென்ற ஆவலைத் தூண்டிப் போகிறார். மீட் மை கேர்ள் ப்ரண்டு பாடலில் நம்மை கிறங்கடிக்கிறார். ஜெயராம் சர்ப்ரைஸ் பேக்கேஜ். சத்யன் இடையிடையே கிச்சு கிச்சு மூட்டுகிறார். கடைசியில் கண்கலங்க வைக்கிறார்.

ஒளிப்பதிவு சந்தோஷ் சிவன். ஆமாங்க மணிரத்னம் படங்களுக்கு பண்ணிட்டு இருந்தாரே அவரே தான். ஒவ்வோர் பிரேமிலும் ஒளி ஓவியத்தை காமிரா எனும் தூரிகை கொண்டு தீட்டி இருக்கிறார். (சார், உங்களுக்கு டைரக்ஷன் எல்லாம் வேண்டாம்.. உங்க ஒளிச் சேவை தமிழ் நாட்டுக்குத் தேவை.)

ஹாரிஸ் ஜெயராஜின் இசையில் பாடல்கள் அனைத்தும் அருமை.. ஒரு பாடலை ஆண்ட்ரியாவுடன் விஜயே பாடியிருப்பது சிறப்பு (நல்லவேளை இந்த பாடலை பாடிக் கொண்டிருப்பவர் உங்கள் விஜய் என்ற வாசகத்தை காணோம்). ரீ-ரெக்கார்டிங் கலக்கல் (லேட்டா போட்டாலும் லேட்டஸ்டா போட்டிருக்கீங்க பாஸு!)

ராணுவ வீரர்களுக்கு மரியாதை செலுத்தியிருக்கும் தேசப்பற்றிற்காக இயக்குனருக்கு ஒரு சல்யூட். தெளிவான கதை, அளவான வசனங்கள், விறுவிறுப்பான திரைக்கதை, ஹாலிவுட் படங்களுக்கு இணையான காட்சியமைப்புகள், சண்டைக்காட்சிகள். துப்பாக்கி பர்பெக்ட் என்டர்டைனர் என்பதில் துளியும் ஐயமில்லை..

முருகதாஸ் சார், எல்லாம் சரி...எதுக்கு சார் இந்த டைட்டிலே வேணும்னு கட்டிபுடுச்சு உருண்டு, சண்டை போட்டு வாங்கனிங்க? ஒரு பட்டாசுன்னு வச்சுருக்கலாம், சரவெடின்னு வச்சுருக்கலாம். கொஞ்சம் டவுட் க்ளியர் பண்றீங்களா?

A NEW BENCHMARK FOR COMMERCIAL MOVIE, Kannan Vijayakumar,

A.R.Murgadoss appears to have known the strength of Vijay very well and have utilized most of it. He keeps his inventive imagination running while coming up with a neat commercial flick. A.R.Murgadoss injects a neat message through a game-like objective driven screenplay. The patriotic element and the message about the Army men have come out convincingly. Especially during the last scene, every man could feel the true meaning and value of patriotism.

Vijay with his toned physique looks tailor made for a casual Army officer. He blends well with this story driven flick and oozes with versatility. Kajal Agarwal as ‘Boxer’ Nisha suits the film well and we can safely say that she is one of the few female leads in recent times who does humour so convincingly. On the flip side, even though the comical antics between Vijay and Kajal are fun, it somehow slows down the thrill of the film. Vidyut Jamwal impresses with his subtle delivery and menacing eyes while Sathyan is a scream. Jeyaram stamps his experience, even with a brief role.

Santosh Sivan captures Mumbai in two colours; one being the bright clean chapter of Jagadish and Nisha chapter and another being the underworld terrorists. The most talked about Arri Digital enhances the action sequences. Editor Sreekar Prasad’s fast cuts certainly give an extra boost to the already racy screenplay.

Harris Jayaraj’s songs is apt for the film and his epic BGMs especially the theme music, really adds the icing to the cake. However the placement of ‘Vennilave’ song is seriously misplaced, especially when it come during the pre-climax.

Bottomline: With A.R.Murgdoss’s sharp direction and Vijay’s ever dependable dedication, Thuppakki works big time, firing with the right sound for this Deepavali!

MUST WATCH, NaveenKumar Baskaran (Die-hard Ajith Fan),

Vijay delivers a neat performance after a long gap in his 54th flick. It is an ultimate make over with underplayed acting and toned physique. Kajal is so peppy and did a good job paired with Vijay for the first time. Vidyut's powerful body language, physique, dialogue delivery fits the role of a terrorist perfectly. Probably for the first time, a new villain is getting a chance to clash with both THALA & THALAPATHY in subsequent movies. Sathyan's performance is a bit laggy. But, Jeyaram fills the gap left by Sathyan. And the characters played by Vijay's family members did a convincing job.

AR Murugadoss' execution is simply brilliant and well planned. Thuppaki is sure to join his list of masterpieces - Ramana, Dheena, Ghajini. Santhosh Sivan excellent picturisation of all the scenes and partcularly in all the songs were shot well. Sreekar Prasad has made a great comeback to Tamil in this flick. Thotta Tharani's sets rocked as usual. Peter Hein is phenomenal in choreographing raw fight sequences this time. Haris Jeyaraj's songs are already a smashing hit. But as BGM is concerned, its lags a bit .
