First Look Launch of 2.0 - The Complete Story

From technical glitches to uninvited star guests, from 3D image interviews to 3D screening of the first look; the starry evening at Yash Raj Studios, Mumbai saw it all. And the event responsible for such contribution was the first look launch of Shankar's 2.0 featuring Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson. The event extraordinaire, which according to trade sources was budgeted at 6 crores (highest for any Indian first look launch event) had some interesting highlights. Here's a quick look at some of them: 

Movie Highlights:

• Akshay Kumar's makeup for the Villain's role took 6 hours everyday and hence it required him to wake up and be on sets 6 hours earlier than everyone.

• The makers of the movie (team from Lyca Productions) said that the movie has been shot in 3D and not just converted in to the technology. This is a first for mainstream Tamil cinema.

• AR Rahman revealed that only one song has been composed for the film so far apart from the trailer music.

• Hollywood stunt choreographer Kenny Bates, known for his work in Pearl Harbour (2001), Transformers (2007) and Die Hard (1988) is performing a stunt for 2.0.

• Oscar award winning sound designer Resul Pookutty revealed that the format of sound design used for 2.0 is a first in the world.

• VFX head Srinivas Mohan said that the grandeur of visuals in 2.0 will be bigger than Enthiran/Robo and Baahubali. Walt Jones,known for his world-class visual effects work in Life of Pi, Superman Returns, The chronicles of Narnia is heading the VFX team (alongside Srinivas Mohan) for 2.0. 

• The movie which has Rajinikanth and Amy Jackson in lead roles will hit theatre screens during Diwali next year. 

Star Revelations: 

• Superstar Rajnikanth was all praises for his co-actor Akshay Kumar who according to him is the real hero of 2.0. He even went on to say that if he had been given the option, he would have chosen Akshay's character to play.

• Amy Jackson had initially no idea that she would be working with such magnum of a team and thanked her director for the same.

• According to AR Rahman, 2.0 is the toughest film of his career as he finds his director (Shankar) more demanding (of Rahman's work) than he has been on any other project. 

• Editor Antony went on to reveal that the most challenging part at the edit table was the 3D portion. 

• Director Shankar felt that making 2.0 has been quite challenging for him as he felt it was equivalent to climbing mount Everest with the weight of another Everest on his shoulder.

• When asked whether the audience could expect any more parts from the Enthiran series, director Shankar replied that if the opportunity presents he would love to direct a part 3, 4.0, 5.0 and so on.
