Thandavam Plagiarism Issue takes down Ameer

UTV has been keeping the Thaandavam plagiarism issue under wraps. But, the tremors are being felt in unlikeliest of places. Director Ameer who is the head of Director's union has announced his resignation yesterday. This has come as a surprise since Ameer is known for his stubbornness in managing FEFSI-Producer union issue and Alex Pandian issue. This drastic move by Ameer in response to allegations of mishandling of Thandavam plagiarism issue has made the skeptics sit-up and wonder whether this plagiarism issue has some truth. This new plagiarism row has rocked the industry on the day of Thaandavam's release.

Did Director Ameer fail to bring justice to Assistant Director?

A faction within Director's union has been rallying fellow directors against Ameer for not bringing justice to Assistant Director Ponnusamy. Ponnusamy claims that Thaandavam story is based on a bound script that he had given to UTV Dhananjayan last year. Ameer who tried to sort this issue amicably is reportedly upset that he is now charged for inappropriate dealing that led to petitioner not getting a fair outcome.

Ameer's Role in Thaandavam Issue

We broke the details of this story few weeks ago - Thaandavam mired in Controversies and here is the briefing of Ameer's role in Thaandavam issue from Sept 14 story -

"Director Radha Mohan's Assistant Ponnuswamy, who went to the courts claiming that Thaandavam team plagiarized/stole the story that the he had narrated to UTV Dhananjayan in a private sitting last year. Recently, Director Ameer through Director council got involved since he doesn't prefer cinema related problems to go to courts. Ameer's team tried to validate if there is any truth by requesting for a special projection that was set up last week. The projection was attended by Ameer along with a few other council members, UTV representatives and Asst. Director who had filed the complaint. There was apparently some similarities especially related to scenes involving the blind Vikram taking revenge. Ameer tried to settle it amicably out-of-court with the Assistant Director. But, the Assistant Director, who is no mood to back down appears to have returned with more vigor pointing out more specific points about the similarities."
