Theri falls shy of Vedalam's opening day collection in TN 

Vijay's most awaited film Theri had hit the screens worldwide yesterday. Let's check out how the movie fared at the box office on Day 1.

1. Second to Rajinikanth in USA

Theri had collected $250,000 in the premiere which is a new record for a non-Rajini Tamil movie premiere opening in USA. Theri has also crossed the lifetime collection of Vijay's earlier film Puli in USA. In France, the movie had got 3472 entries on the first day from 3 screens.

2. Rs 10 Crore in Tamil Nadu

Theri collected around Rs 10 crore in Tamil Nadu. It is to be noted that the movie wasn't screened across 70 screens in Chengalpet area, which pulled back from screening Theri because of high Minimum Guarantee quote of up to Rs 30 Lakhs per screen. Now, because of this, the movie had fallen short of Vedalam's Day 1 opening collection in Tamil Nadu.

3. Mixed reviews impact business

The movie has opened up to mixed reports. While ardent Vijay fans seem to have liked the film, the general audience and critics blame the predictable screenplay to be a spoiler. Also, pirated links of the movie are already out on the internet. The mixed talks have led to a slight decline in the movie's box office performance on Day 2.
