Yennai Arindhaal Songs - Music Review

Yennai Arindhaal    (Listen Here) Harris reserves his best for the title track, which is absolutely pumping and as energetic as an electro-beat driven introduction should be. Thamarai’s elegant lyrics have given a totally different face with some heavy EDM sets and brilliant loops that get you hooked on the very first hear. This is a track that reverberates the very feeling we will be going into the theatre for – the goosebumps, and cop adventures.

Yaen Ennai  (Listen Here)

A highly techno-infused track, with sounds we have already heard being used by Harris. A very ordinary track, which could have been cut short to keep it brief. But this seems a bit too long-drawn out for all the repetitive sounds.

Mazhai Vara Pogudhey  (Listen Here)

Karthik’s effervescent singing and the heavy jazz influence makes this an interesting composition. One can feel the Vintage Harris - GVM combo throughout the song. Instantly likable song.

Maya Bazaar (Listen Here)

This is a track reserved for a set of montage sequences, and the varying styles tell exactly the same. The way Harris changes gears to shift styles is remarkable, and this might be the once-in-a-blue-moon experimental number from him. Repeated listening will get you hooked to the varying tones.

UnakkenaVenum     (Listen Here)

This has to be one of the most memorable tracks of the album, with some very uncanny arrangements for Harris’ repertoire. He almost sounds like an Ilaiyaraaja here, and the beats being paced so uniformly, give exactly what one would expect from a GVM-Harris combo. Thamarai's lyrics adds beauty to this song. This is a beautiful melody that gives us what we’re here for.

Adhaaru Adhaaru  (Listen Here)

Nothing much to rave about this song and it will be interesting to see how far the visuals take this song to.  A very casual folk number that loses its seriousness right at the start, but has the elements that mass audience look for.

Idhayathai EdhoOndru  (Listen Here)

Chinmayee provides whatever she is best at, and has a great time with a tailor-made tune for her vocals. The female equivalent of UnakkenaVenum, and she makes sure this meets the quality of the former.

Yennai Arindhaal is Harris Jayaraj's confident announcement in style that he’ll be into experimentation in the future. However, the album is not up to the lofty standards of GVM - Harris, but it works where it should. Will be celebrated for its assertive use of techno.
