MovieCrow Box Office Report - October 22 to 26

As usual, this year's Diwali was also marked by movie releases and the fans thronged the theatres to watch their idols, Vijay and Vishal, on the silver screens. Also, the Diwali releases, Kaththi and Poojai, enjoyed a long 5-day opening. Check out the box office rankings of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Kaththi

Vijay and AR Murugadoss gave a blockbuster hit Thuppakki on Diwali day couple of years ago, and they were back in action this Diwali with Kaththi. After going through a lot of hardships, the movie finally made it to the theatres at the last minute and it took a never-before-seen opening. Vijay has been getting rave accolades for his brilliant performance and AR Murugadoss is being lauded for delivering a much-needed social message.

2. Poojai

Although Vishal's Poojai opened to mixed reviews, the movie had its share of audience and it took a good opening. The common criticism faced by the movie is that director Hari is getting too monotonous when penning the screenplays. With Kaththi going very strong at the box office, we will have to wait and watch how Poojai performs in the upcoming week.

3. Madras

After enjoying a free run for 4 weeks, with no real competition, Madras finally lost its screens to the new releases.

Other Movies

Jeeva and Aranamanai were running across very few screens in the city, and the occupancy levels were low, due to the overwhelming patronage to the Diwali releases.
