MovieCrow Box Office Report - July 4 to 6

Vikram Prabhu's Arima Nambi, directed by newcomer Anand Shankar, was a solo release on July 4, and hence the movie received a massive opening. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend (July 4-6). Interestingly, newcomers have been ruling the box office of late.

1. Arima Nambi

Directed by AR Murugadoss' former associate Anand Shankar, the movie received fairly positve reviews and many of the critics claimed the movie to be a tense thriller. Vikram Prabhu has been getting good feedback about his performance too.

2. Mundasupatti

Newcomer Ram Kumar''s Mundasupatti has been declared as a 'Hit', with the family audience patronising this clean laugh riot. Vishnu Vishal and Nandita have become household names, while Ramadoss as Munishkanth is a scream.

3. Vadacurry

Vadacurry has been doing average business at the multiplexes, whereas the single screens have reduced the number of shows. A more taut screenplay would have made the movie even more engaging.

Other Movies

Although Saivam received overwhelming reviews, the audience's reception has been lukewarm. Lack of commercial elements have backlashed for the movie. Manjapai is still running at a handful of screens, with decent occupancy levels. Last week's releases Athithi and Enna Satham Indha Neram received below average reviews and their fate at the box office is also very similar.

Upcoming week's releases

The biopic on Mathematical genius Ramanujan, will be hitting the screens on July 11, along with a couple of lesser known films.
