Malini 22 Palayamkottai  Review

Malini 22 Palyamkottai is the remake of the critically acclaimed and successful Malayalam film “22 female Kottayam”.The film stars Nithya in the title role and is directed by yesteryear actress Sripriya. Krish does the role made memorable by Fahaad Faasil. The music is by Arvind Shankar.

Story & Screenplay

The first half of the film is average. The romantic portions involving the lead actors make up for some interesting moments. The comedy part is completely disappointing. There are scenes which glorify drinking, but thankfully they are not overdone. Major minus of the film is that the main villain’s character is coated with too many negative shades. The film makes a large impact with a gripping second half. But the crucial jail sequences look artificial and staged. There are too many subplots which could have presented in a better way. Unlike the original version, Malini’s motive for revenge is well established through an important news sequence. The director has added new dimensions to the usual revenge story. The dialogues could have been better and the final sequence could have been crisper. The lengthy sermon towards the end may not be accepted by some sections of the audience.

Performances

Nithya Menon has done a wonderful job and her voiceover adds special charm to the character. She slips from victim to hunter with incredible ease. Major disappointments are the performances of the comedy actors. Krish shines largely towards the end in a grey role. But overacting in some scenes could have avoided. Kota Srinavasa Rao has done a fine job.

Technical Aspects

Arvind has done a decent job with songs and a much better BGM in line with the story. The film scores well in some technical aspects.

Verdict

Despite some negatives, the film should be appreciated for its message and performance of the lead actress. It is a strict one time watch for those who have not seen the original version.
