Coolie joins list of Rajinikanth films with A certification

In Rajinikanth's filmography of 170+ movies, twenty had been certified A by the Central Board of Film Certification in India until recently. Now, Coolie with its A censor has joined this list, making it the 21st occurrence in 50 years, where a Superstar Rajinikanth film is restricted to adult audiences in India.

Coolie's A certification comes 36 years since the actor's last. Coolie is also the second Sun Pictures production to get an A-censor after Dhanush's Raayan (2024). 

 

Coolie has action by the National award winning stunt duo Anbariv. The multi-starrer action thriller written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, also stars Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Shruthi Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Aamir Khan, Pooja Hegde, among others.

 

Coolie is scheduled to release in theaters on August 14, 2025, marking 50 years of Rajinikanth in the film industry. The actor's debut movie Apoorva Raagangal (1975) directed by late Tamil filmmaker K Balachander released on August 15, 1975—when Rajinikanth, formerly a bus conductor in Karnataka, was 25 years old.
