It was officially announced last evening that actor Vijay's last film before his big political foray, is hitting theater screens marking the Pongal festivities next year. Jana Nayagan release date is January 9, 2026, and the movie is headed for a 10-day holiday opening given Pongal falls between January 13, 2026 (Bhogi) to January 16, 2026 (Kaanum Pongal).
Jana Nayagan's Pongal release plans are fitting for a farewell movie, however the Vijay film will not be a solo release at the Tamil box-office. Dawn Pictures producer cum upcoming director Aakash Baskaran sent out a tweet last last evening, which suggests that the Sudha Kongara directed Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, and Atharvaa is also releasing for Pongal 2026.

While an official announcement on Parasakthi's Pongal 2026 release date is awaited, the X post by the film's producer has generated a lot of buzz, considering how Vijay metaphorically 'handed over his place*' to Sivakarthikeyan in the Tamil movie The Greatest of All Time (2024).
*Actor Vijay's penultimate movie The Greatest Of All Time aka The GOAT had a scene where Vijay shares screen space with actor Sivakarthikeyan, who plays himself in a cameo appearance. Vijay's dialogue "Thuppakki Ya Pudinga Siva" was seen as a metaphor for Vijay handing over the responsibilities of being Tamil Cinema's entertainer to Sivakarthikeyan in real life.
The scene also has a line by Sivakarthikeyan, which is a metaphorical nod to Sivakarthikeyan accepting the responsibilities on Tamil Cinema's side because Vijay is headed towards important work in the political side.
