Jailer starring Rajinikanth in the lead is the highest grossing Tamil film of the year 2023. The action blockbuster written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, and produced by Sun Pictures, is now gearing up for a theatrical release in Japan. The Japanese section with an eye for Tamil movies is buzzing with the news that Jailer will be releasing in theaters in their country on February 21, 2025.
Jailer has music by Anirudh Ravichander. Back in 2023, Hiroshi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to India had created a video with Japanese YouTuber Mayo San, in which the duo could be seen dancing to the Anirudh composed Kaavaala song.

Rajinikanth first gained popularity in Japan when Jun Edoki, a Japanese film critic saw Muthu (1995) at a Singaporean video shop, and persuaded the film distributors in his country to release Muthu in Japan theaters. Muthu went on to become a sleeper blockbuster, whose box-office record remained unbeaten among South Indian film releases in Japan, until SS Rajamouli's RRR (2022) storm took over the world.
