Vaadivaasal is a 1940 novella by writer CS Chellappa. The long short-story marked the first time that the traditional sport of 'Jallikattu', or bull-taming, was highlighted in Tamil modern literature. The national award-winning team of actor Suriya and director Vetrimaaran, is adapting this Vaadivaasal into a movie of the same name.
Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu of V Creations backs Vaadivaasal, but the movie hasn't been filmed in a full-fledged manner since its official announcement in 2019, and cast and crew reveal in 2020. On Independence day i.e. August 15, 2024, director Vetrimaaran and producer Thanu happened to share the same stage during a public event, and were asked an update on Vaadivaasal.

Vetrimaaran once again maintained that the plan is to begin Vaadivaasal once the filmmaker completes Vidhuthalai: Part 2, also produced by V Creations. Both Vertimaaran and producer Thanu have also said that Vaadivaasal will begin shooting, dismissing rumours that the movie has been shelved.
