Vidaamuyarchi: Ajith's film a remake of Kurt Russel's Breakdown?

Remaking Hollywood hits in Tamil is not an unheard of trend, and the most recent case of it came in the form of Vijay starrer Leo (2023) which was based on A History of Violence (2005). Another star actor who seems to be upkeeping this trend is Ajith Kumar, whose upcoming film Vidaamuyarchi has been revealed to be an official remake of Kurt Russel starrer hit suspense thriller Breakdown (1997).

Breakdown, presented by Paramount Pictures is a 93-minute movie about how a married couple, during a cross-country drive become unknowing victims of a deviant attack. Their car breaks down in a desolate region, and the wife disappears while hitchhiking with the hopes of getting a mechanic/help. The husband's frantic search for his missing wife then unveils a chain of crimes, and edge-of-the-seat suspense.

Breakdown is currently streaming on unofficial YouTube channels, but is not available on OTT platforms in India. Ajith and Trisha are said to be reprising Kurt Russel and Kaithleen Quinlan's roles of husband and wife from Breakdown. Actor Arjun is said to be reprising the main villain character of JT Walsh's from Breakdown, while actor Aarav reprises MC Gainey's other villain role in Vidaamuyarchi
