Leo recap before first look, teaser release of the Vijay, Lokesh Kanagaraj movie

Leo starring actor Vijay in the lead is an upcoming Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial, which is part of the director's cinematic universe known as the LCU. Leo, releasing October 19, 2023 is set before the events of Kamal Haasan's Vikram (2022), and is connected to the events of Karthi starrer Kaithi (2019) too.

Kaithi's base plotlines like a former convict-on-parole trying to meet his daughter for the first time but getting caught in an unexpected crime war, a police officer colluding with a prisoner to take on the bad guys, and a sparsely man-powered police station taking on a full gang has reminded one too many viewers of Hollywood films like Con Air (1997) and Assault on Precinct 13 (1976).

Some scenes in Vikram like vigilantes dragging a character from his daughter's wedding, Kamal Haasan revealing himself as one of the masked men and the pre-climax where he secretly looks over his family were direct inspirations from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

Similarly, Vijay starrer Leo has been long rumoured to have a plotline similar to the Hollywood action thriller A History of Violence (2005). Based on a 1997 graphic novel of the same name, A History of Violence is about how a former gangster, now living a quiet life as a diner owner with wife and kids, is forced to confront his past and his violent brother with a grudge.

Leo also starring Trisha, Sanjay Dutt and a host of other actors playing villains will reportedly see Vijay as Daniel Leo, a gangster turned bakery owner. Sanjay Dutt reportedly plays Vijay's gangster-father. The movie is currently gearing up for a first look and teaser release on Vijay's birthday i.e. June 22, 2023 [Thursday]. The teaser releasing will be a video glimpse of Leo, with a voice-over by Kamal Haasan. Produced by 7 Screen Studios, Leo has Anirudh for music, Manoj Paramahansa for cinematography.
