Vidaamuyarchi Review - Perseverance Not Always Triumphs!
Outstanding music and cinematography are the pillars of strength. Wafer thin subject that demanded an intriguing screenplay and its lacking here. A few decent stretches exist, but not sufficient enough to hold the tension nor impact emotionally.(more)

Ajith Kumar's stylish actioner doesn't rely on star-power
Director Magizh Thirumenis Vidaamuyarchi is technically sound. The film boasts brilliant cinematography by Om Prakash and a background score by Anirudh Ravichander. The action choreography, whatever little of it there is, is delightful to see, especially an action scene choreographed inside a car. Vidaamuyarchi lacked an emotional arc and some solid twists and turns. While it remained true to the films genre, it could have had more gravitas.(more)

A dull outing for Ajith and his fans
Vidaamuyarchi is not the usual Ajith outing and marks a departure from his typical mass masala films with an entry song and lengthy dialogues. While there are two ways to see this, the movie might be disappointing for Ajith fans expecting mass moments. Ajith wields a white flag from the beginning and stays away from putting up a fight until heavily provoked. He gets beaten up more than he can ever give back. The action sequences are ordinary and natural, and dont suit the tone of the film. Vidaamuyarchi lacks the stand-out moment fans eagerly look forward to. Ajith is stoic as a man who is caught unaware of why Kayal is divorcing him. Throughout the film, he puts up a class act as the film focuses on content over style. Trisha appears prominently in the first half, and has very little to do in the second half as she goes missing. Arjun and Reginas roles required a little more depth. While adapting from the core of Breakdown, the filmmaker fails to provide details about why Arjun and Regina are the way they are. They have performed their roles with ease.(more)

Magizh Thirumeni moulds Ajith Kumar into a different kind of star in a different kind of a film
Vidaamuyarchi, existing in this form, is a fascinating addition to the evolving standards of superstar films in Tamil cinema. It shows that difference has to come from top down, and when superstars like Ajith decide to play roles rather than images, and surrenders to the vision of directors like Magizh who have a distinct voice of their own, the result is there for everyone to see. Of course, Vidaamuyarchi is no Mankatha or Viswasam, but thats the point. It doesnt have to be. It doesnt have to be at all.(more)

A film about the power of faith, not of fists
Vidaamuyarchi isn't about perseverance in work, as it's generally used. Here, it's about the spirit, about the doggedness required to keep human bonds alive. It's a film that may not have grand heroism as we have come to expect; but it has more than one grand idea for sure.(more)

Ajith Kumar's underplayed performance elevates this offbeat road thriller
The film has a lot of lag and predictability, but thanks to Ajiths refreshing, underplayed performance and stunning visuals, we are not bogged down excessively by it. It is an Ajith Kumar film all the way, and it looks like the Kollywood star is trying to break out of the image he has with an offbeat road trip film. Trisha has essayed her role as Kayal to a T.(more)
