Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan in the lead is an upcoming vigilante action that is written and directed by Shankar, and is all set for a release on July 12, 2024. A Lyca Productions venture, Indian 2 comes as a sequel to Kamal Haasan-Shankar's blockbuster hit Indian (1996), and will see the return of Kamal Haasan as the freedom fighter turned killing machine Senapathy, who is a 106 years old in 2024.

Everybody is angry about something, and wants something to be changed..Even today, corruption prevails in India..I need (ed) to write the story in such a way that it also connects to the youngsters. The movie stars actor Siddharth as Chitra Varadharajan, a YouTuber who exposes corrupt politicians. How Siddharth's character aides in the return of Senapathy to India with the X (formerly Twitter) trend #ComeBackIndian, and how the rest of the story moves forward is what Indian 2 is all about. It is a well known fact by now that Indian 2 will be followed by the release of Indian 3 in the next 6 months. 

 

“Truth be told, the only reason why I accepted to do the second part (Indian 2) is because of the third part. I am a big fan of the third part. Usually, people say that they like the first half or second half of the film better than the first half. My second half is Indian 3. I have been praising the film by myself and I am only tensed that there’s a six-month wait for it,” -  Actor Kamal Haasan during Indian 2 promotions

Talking about both Indian 2 and Indian 3, actor Siddharth has now said, "Ofcourse (I'm part of Indian 3). If there's an Indian 4 I'm in that too. I am very much part of both films. Kamal Sir has said that he selected Indian 2 because of Indian 3. I listened to the whole story (of Indian 2, Indian 3) and only then accepted to be part of the movie (s)."

Siddharth further added in respect of Kamal Haasan, and director Shankar who launched him as an actor with Boys (2003), "I have many ways to give Gurudhakshina (a form of reciprocity from student to teacher) to Shankar sir and Kamal sir but Indian 2 is a not a Gurudhakshana film. Indian 2 is a film where I need to show why Shankar sir launched me in Boys, and why I am Kamal Haasan's student. I think both of those whys will be answered in Indian 2."
