Towards the end of 2022, MovieCrow had reported that Thangalaan's OTT rights was bagged by Netflix for Rs. 35 Cr. A few days into 2023, Netflix officially announced itself as Thangalaan's digital partner, and that the Pa. Ranjith directed film will be streaming in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages post its theatrical run.

Thangalaan is currently gearing up for a April, 2024 release in theaters. This confirms that Thangalaan's OTT release date is expected to be in May, 2024 - twenty eight days or additional from Thangalaan's release date, which is yet to be announced. 

Set during the British rule in India, the movie is about the tribal leader Thangalaan's valiant struggle against the British after they plot to seize his land for gold mining. Thangalaan - the movie is based on real life working-class miners who discovered gold in the 19th century. Kolar Gold Fields in Karnataka is the backdrop for the film. 

Thangalaan's story is written by Pa Ranjith, Tamil Prabha and the movie has screenplay by Pa Ranjith, Tmail Prabha and Azhagiya Periyavan. The movie is a joint production venture of Studio Green and Pa. Ranjith's Neelam Productions. 

Pasupathy, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone among others play important roles in Thangalaan. The movie's technical crew includes GV Prakash for music, A. Kishor Kumar for cinematography and Selva RK for edits.
