Cyclone Michaung leaves Chennai, Kollywood struggling - Latest on Chennai Floods 2023

Cyclone Michaung's passage through Chennai on December 4, 2023 [Monday] has left the capital city of Tamil Nadu grappling with extensive damage. While Chennai faced extreme levels of water stagnation and power outages on Monday, Tuesday [December 5, 2023], day 3 i.e. December 6, 2023 [Wednesday] sees the city slowly but steadily get back on its feet.

 

While the aftermath is still paralyzing with blocked roads, people stuck in high rise buildingswithout access to food, water or electricity, emergency cases are being attended to by the Greater Chennai Corporation in steady rescue and relief efforts. The Indian Army were also deployed in choppers since December 5, 2023 to distribute food packets and for other rescue operations.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin had sought Rs 5,060 Cr. from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as interim relief to address the damages. Around 400 kg of relief materials have so far been distributed or sair-dropped from the Air Force Station in Tambaram.
