Hukum - an Anirudh composed single from Rajinikanth's last release Jailer played an important role in changing the trajectory of the film's popularity among the Tamil cine audience. The song was unveiled in audio form on the Monday evening of July 17, 2023, unleashing endless discussions across the Tamil cineverse about the song's lyrics and "intentions".  By the morning of July 18, 2023 it had become clear that Hukum with fan-service lyrics by Super Subbu was here to stay, and reclaim the 'Thalaivar Superstar' status for Rajinikanth. 

Jailer released in theaters on August 10, 2023 and on OTT on September 7, 2023. Neither versions had a dedicated Hukum video song, but now Jailer production house Sun Pictures has unveiled one. Rajinikanth appears in two different timelines in the Nelson Dilipkumar directed Jailer, and both the vintage and modern looks can be seen in the music video. Hukum has vocals by Anirudh and dialogues by Rajinikanth.
