Jailer starring Rajinikanth in the lead released in theaters worldwide on August 10, 2023, and the film's box-office performance in overseas locations like USA, UK have been particularly exceptional. In the UK, Jailer has grossed £222,777 i.e. (Rs 2.34 Cr) on day 1. This places Jailer in the top 3 UK day 1 box office of Tamil movies behind only the comparably grand scale Ponniyin Selvan movies. 

Jailer's opening in UK is terrific given the obstacles it faced in the region. Not only did advance bookings open at the last minute for the film, there were also hiccups like Jailer's UK distribution deal getting signed only a week before film's release. Compared to Ponniyin Selvan films that got around a wide 150+ locations to screen, Jailer's last minute troubles ensured only around a 100+. 

Despite all odds, pre-sales for Jailer was remarkable. But the movie faced issues even till release date in the UK. Apparently, some Jailer shows were cancelled and other stopped mid-screening because the UK censor of the Rajinikanth starrer had not come through. Amidst all this trouble, Jailer achieving the numbers that it has is truly a tremendous feat.
