Thalaivar 170: Vikram to play Rajinikanth's villain?

There isn't a character that actor Chiyaan Vikram hasn't pulled off in his Tamil film industry career yet the actor seems to have made it a point to avoid cameo or villainous roles. Vikram was famously approached for playing Suriya's Rolex character in Kamal Haasan's Vikram (2022) - the movie, but the actor turned down director Lokesh Kanagaraj's offer on the account of the appearance being a cameo. [Rolex went on to leave a deep impact post Vikram's release, and director Lokesh Kanagaraj is said to be planning a whole separate movie out of the character].

Vikram who as last seen as the troubled emperor in the Ponniyin Selvan movies, is currently part of another challenging movie titled Thangalaan (with director Pa. Ranjith). At this time, word has it that Chiyaan Vikram was approached to play a full fledged villain role in Rajinikanth's next film Thalaivar 170 (tentative title).

A Lyca Productions venture, Thalaivar 170 is directed by TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bhim (2021) fame and though initially hesitant, actor Vikram is said to be coming around accepting this antagonist role. Vikram is said to have liked Thalaivar 170's story and the scope of his character, and Lyca is said to have lured him with a whopping salary as well.

It remains to be seen if Vikram ends up giving the nod, and starring alongside Rajini in Thalaivar 170, which has Anirudh for music. Thalaivar 170 has been officially announced to release in 2024, and Rajini will be playing a Muslim police officer in the movie, which is based on real life incidents.
