Thangalaan is an upcoming period drama set during the British era, and the film written and directed by Pa. Ranjith is said to be based on true life events of Tamils who were forced to work at the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) of Karnataka. The movie starring actor Vikram in the lead is currently in its second schedule of shooting, and recently the makers unveiled a new character from the film that will be played by British actor Daniel Caltagirone.

Caltagirone is making his Indian movie debut with Thangalaan, and he is best known for his work in movies such as the Leonardo Dicaprio, Tilda Swinton starrer adventure drama The Beach (2000), the critically acclaimed The Pianist (2002) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life (2003).
Thangalaan is co-written by Tamil Prabha and also stars Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy among others. The film produced by Studio Green and Neelam Productions is scheduled to release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam languages; It has GV Prakash for music.
