Much to the dismay of actor Suriya's fans, who were only recently hit with the dropping of the Suriya-Bala collaboration on Vanangaan, there are rumours online about another Suriya movie getting shelved. Word has it that Suriya is considering dropping out of director Vetrimaaran's Vaadivaasal, which is based on a 1940 novella written by CS Chellappa.

Suriya is supposedly unhappy with Vetrimaaran releasing a web-series, also based on the bull-chasing sport of Jallikattu. While the 8-episode Pettakaali, streaming on Aha Tamil from Ocotober 2022, is about how a village boy learns to tame a tricky bull over love and family feud, Vaadivaasal on the other hand is about how a son avenges his father's death in the Jallikattu sport. Vaadivaasal story also has sprinkles of caste hierarchies, masculinity and feuds.

Sources close to Suriya's film dismiss these rumours as 'baseless'. As reported by MovieCrow before, Vaadivaasal already has done a bunch of pre-shoot business like the audio label, and filming is expected to begin in the second half of next year. 

Suriya is currently busy with the Siva directed Suriya 42, and rumour mills claim that the actor will be beginning a Sudha Kongara movie instead of the 'shelved' Vaadivaasal in 2023.
