Vanangaan [Achaludu in Telugu] is an upcoming Bala directorial, which was supposed to be actor Suriya's 41st movie. Shooting for the film began in Kanyakumari earlier this year but soon there were reports of a rift between Bala and Suriya on the sets. Suriya is even said to have roped in his Soorarai Pottru director Sudha Kongara to diffuse the brewing tension, but, things did seem to come to an abrupt halt in May, 2022 after just a month of filming. 

7 months later, director Bala has issued an official statement which confirms that Suriya and his production house 2D Entertainment are no longer part of Vanangaan / Achaludu. However, the director says that the project will go forward, presumably once shooting resumes with a replacement.  

 

"Hello,

I wanted to direct a new film titled Vanangan'with my brother Suriya. But due to some changes in the story, I now have doubts whether this story will be suitable for Suriya.

Suriya has full faith in me and this story. It is also my duty as a brother, that I should not cause even a small embarrassment to Suriya who has so much love, respect and trust.

Which is why we have both discussed and unanimously agreed to Suriya withdrawing from Vanangaan. Even though he is extremely disppointed with the decision, it has been taken in his best interest.

Like the Suriya I saw in Nanda, the Suriya you people saw in Pithamagan, we will definitely unite at some other point in time.

Other than that, the work on Vanangan will continue." - Director Bala's Statement

Vanangaan has GV Prakash for music and also stars Krithi Shetty and Mamitha Baiju among others. Suriya was supposed to play a speech, hearing impaired character with Krithi playing his love interest and Mamitha playing his sister.
