Beast's Rs. 170 Cr boosts Sun TV's business!

Sun TV Network Ltd. which is a popular Tamil Nadu based company that consists of 32 TV channels, an OTT platform named SunNxt and a production company called Sun Pictures. The company ended with gains in their shares back in August, 2022, when the first quarter of their financial year i.e. Q1 FY23 came to a close.  The company's financial declaration back then revealed that:

  • The South-based Sun TV's ad revenue was higher than Zee Entertainment with a PAN-India foothold. This was attributed by experts to improved ad spends by regional advertisers, and improvement in Tamil viewership share, among other things.
  • Sun TV's production side i.e. Sun Pictures aided a strong theatrical revenue to the company via the Vijay starrer Beast. The theatrical collection of the Tamil movie including its OTT licensing fee is estimated at Rs. 1.7 billion i.e. Rs. 170 Cr.

Beast opened to largely mixed reviews when it first hit theater screens on April 13, 2022. The movie's business has been highly debated because of the same, though both the producers and distributors (Red Giant Movies) have maintained that it was a highly profitable film for them in the financial aspect.
