It has been buzzed for a while that Ajith starrer bank heist thriller Thunivu, directed by H Vinoth is expected to hit theater screens for Pongal in January, 2023. Now word has it that the makers are planning on officially announcing the same next week with a new poster release.

Thunivu is Ajith's third movie with H Vinoth and also stars Manju Warrier in the lead. The movie is said to be based on the infamous 1987 Ludhiana bank robbery case, which was masterminded by former police officer turned militant Labh Singh of the Khalistan Commando Force. The loot of Rs. 4.5 Cr. from Punjab National Bank was considered India's largest bank robbery then, and the incident was documented under "Curiosities and Wonders" in the Limca Book of Records.

This is mainly because of the neat and clean nature of the operation with no injuries or causalities, despite involving 12 to 15 sikhs dressed as policemen and armed with submachine guns and rifles. Thunivu is jointly produced by Boney Kapoor's Bay View Projects and Zee Studios and has Ghibran for music.
