Shakthi Soundar Rajan is a Tamil film director who is known for making films on Hollywood-inspired themes and stories. All his movies so far have been new attempts for Tamil cinema like Naaigal Jaakirathai (2014) which was the first Kollywood movie to have a dog as the protagonist, Miruthan (2016) - the first Tamil zombie film, Tik Tik Tik (2018) - the first Tamil space film and Teddy (2021) - a rare Tamil live action movie. 

Staying true to his lane of bringing rarely attempted concepts to Kollywood, Shakthi is currently gearing up for the release of Captain which is a VFX-heavy alien-monster hunt movie, starring Arya in the lead. Like most of his other films, Captain has been compared to Hollywood's Predator movies, but Shakthi Soundar Rajan maintains that his films deal with a lot more than just west-inspired concepts. 

"Captain is a sci-fi action film without fantasy elements. Arya plays an army captain, Vetriselvan, and the story is about army personnel taking down a creature. We have established causes and reasons for every aspect. The film also reflects on emotions like love, friendship and more," the director recently told Cinema Express.  

Captain releases in theaters on September 8, 2022. The film is produced by Arya's The Show People and Think Studios, and comes with a runtime of 116 minutes (1 hour 56 minutes). The technical crew of Captain includes D. Imman for music, S Yuva for cinematography and Pradeep E Raghav for edits.
