Vendhu Thanindathu Kaadu Trailer - First Impression Report

“Vendhu Thaninthadhu Kaadu is the story of a common man, and the story does not end with this..it will continue.”, said director Gautham Menon at the audio and trailer launch of the movie, which has now been confirmed to release in two parts. A first impression report (FIR) of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu Part I: The Kindling trailer here:

Gautham Menon Like Never Before

While the initial promo material of VTK did indicate that filmmaker Gautham Menon was stepping away from his usual genre, VTK trailer reveals that the director has gone full-fledged into 'experimenting' with a dark theme, a two-part movie and a gangster for a hero. It's like Gautham Menon took the dark-themed dabs from Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada (2016) and Enai Noki Paayum Thota (2019) and made a full dive with it in Vendhu Thaninthadhu Kaadu

Silambarasan TR's Versatality

There was exactly one poster before the trailer, that gave any indication of Silambarasan TR dealing with guns in the movie. A deep voiced Mumbai gangster was the least of anyone's expectations of 'Muthu' in Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. Silambarasan TR's showcase of versatility from a low rung Muthu to an inadvertent goon to a feared gangster, has been met with a good response.

Hardcore fans are even throwing back to Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya, which first planted the 'story-idea' of a hero ending up as a don in the Gautham Menon-Silambarasan TR universe. [reference video below]

AR Rahman & Other Technicals

Vendhu Thanindathu Kaadu also had its full audio release along with the trailer and it is evident that the music is focussed on being part of the narration than a standout [VTK Music Review Here]. While it remains to be seen how the AR Rahman-Gautham Menon-Silambarasan TR combo translates this time, rest assured it will be way different from the trio's previous movies.  The visual expectation of Vendhu Thanindhathi Kaadu, is set on the lines of any other gangster drama.

Bottomline

The 2 minute trailer of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu looks promising enough for a Gautham Menon-style gangster drama. The movie will hopefully break the trending concern of cinephiles about content being a let down, after good promotional releases.
