After working with music director Santhosh Narayanan consecutively in his first five films, director Pa Ranjith decided to opt in for a fresh composer for his 6th full length feature Natchathiram Nagargiradhu. The move was alluded to a brewing tension because of the Enjoy Enjaami controversy, where Pa Ranjith had publicly sided with Arivu as opposed to Santhosh Narayanan and his step-daughter singer Dhee.

This was a year ago and Natchathiram Nagargiradhu is currently gearing up for a theatrical release on August 31, 2022. In a recent promotional interview for the movie, Pa Ranjith was asked how different did he feel working with a music composer who was not Santhosh Narayanan and this is what the director had to say about it:
"Santhosh and I have a good relationship.. Our rapport was formed on Attakathi..(Debut for both Pa Ranjith and Santhosh Narayanan)..Even though his music was too westernized for my taste, I liked how he was able to control the sounds and provide what I wanted..From Madras (their seond film together), he was able to give music just from my requirements and if I didn't like anything, he would keep it aside.
With Tenma, it took a little time to explain to him what kind of sound I wanted. Because Tenma is a contemporary artist, he was in a totally different space from my expecations. So I had to make him see what cinema is, how to connect with the cine audience..I kept rejecting a lot of his tunes till I liked something..Even for a small re-recording, there were a lot of discussions. It took a little time to understand all of this. "
