Vikram starring Kamal Haasan in the lead is all set for a worldwide release in theaters and the movie is the actor's first release in the last 4 years. Naturally, there is a considerable amount of expectation and hype attached to the film. SWOT analysis of Vikram follows:
Strengths
- Tamil cinephiles have missed Kamal Haasan's screen presence and acting prowess for quite a while now. On the plus side, fans are eager to lap up the actor's raw, gritty no-pair avatar, which promises to be a rare mix of both 'experimental' and 'commercially appeasing'.
- Story-wise, Vikram pays homage to Kamal Haasan's 1986 classic hit of the same name. The movie being developed from a 36 year old idea [originally meant for the 1986 Vikram] and hinted to be on the lines of The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil has the intrigue factor on an all-time high. Suriya's cameo, the promise of a sequel and references to Lokesh's other films come as added bonuses for this action-thriller.
- Vikram comes with a best-in-business ensemble namely Lokesh Kanagaraj (direction), Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil (co-leads), Anirudh (music), Girish Gangadharan (cinematography), Anbariv (stunts) among others, promising minimum cinematic guarantee.
Weakness
- A lot seems to be riding on Lokesh Kanagaraj's screenplay given how most of the plot points are out.
- The film's runtime is close to 3 hours, a factor that has gone both ways with the new generation Tamil audience.
Opportunities
- The hype for Vikram is like no other for three reasons a) Kamal Haasan's return after a 4 year gap b) makers banked on it well by ensuring good promotions and marketing c)multiple fandoms awaiting to see their respective favourite stars on screen. If the movie turns out to be as good, then there will be no stopping it at the box-office.
- Vikram opens in theaters with little to no competition. Ripe opportunity to cash in the big numbers, especially with the multiple-language, geographical release.
Threats
- As seen with Tamil releases in recent times, the opening day word-of-mouth holds precedence over a lot else. A movie's fate is decided by the end of day 1 and even though Vikram is a table-profit film, career-wise Kamal Haasan hasn't had a hit since Thoongavanam in 2015.
