A Dark Actioner!
An action flick that excites a lot from the outside by having an ensemble cast, music, etc. As a premise Vikram is interesting with a lot of layers and angles, but the presentation falls short of a solid punch. A dark passable actioner that serves only to an extent with quite a few clap-worthy theatrical moments.(more)

An ambitious, but somewhat underwhelming action film
The action scenes, while solidly choreographed, never leave us with a rush. There are a couple of cool shots, like a zoom out and zoom in which Karnan and Amar switch places, but after after a point, the stunts leave us unmoved. In fact, in a film filled with action heroes, the biggest mass moment comes in a stunt scene involving a female character. Vikram needed a few more such moments to have been truly memorable.(more)

Kamal, VJS, Fahadh, Lokesh & Anirudh deliver an entertaining Vikram with amazing performances, terrific music, surprise twists and stylish stunts.
Overall, with the writing and performances holding the film high for most parts, the music and cinematography only makes the experience better for us. More importantly, Lokesh has proven that it is possible for Tamil cinema to create a cinematic universe parallel to the cinematic universes of Hollywood. Vikram entertains and engages you well, and is definitely worth watching more than once.(more)

Kamal Haasan's glorious comeback lays the groundwork for Tamil cinema�s most ambitious franchise
The film does falter at places and isn't consistently engaging, but it manages to merge key characters from Lokesh�s earlier film Kaithi and sets the stage for what could be Tamil cinema's biggest franchise in the making. What Lokesh manages to achieve with Vikram, which feels slightly long with nearly a three-hour running time, is to give a new generation of audiences a glimpse of Kamal Haasan�s versatility. It was rewarding to see the veteran shine after a long time.(more)

Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi serve up an entertaining action-thriller
Vikram is not without flaws. There are loopholes and logical discrepancies -- some more glaring than the others. But cinema is all about how a film creates a suspension of disbelief and sustains it. It is pacy -- there�s a lovely rhythm in the shots and cuts. The camera dances around its characters so fluidly. (Cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and edited by Philomin Raj) This pace dips a bit in the second half, but Anirudh�s ridiculously electric score fills in to hold the fort.(more)

Lokesh Kanagaraj's enormous fanboy service to Kamal Haasan is extremely satisfying
Lokesh hits us with one crowd-pleasing moment after another. Yes, we bought the tickets for Kamal. But, Lokesh doesn't burden Kamal with the herculean responsibility of keeping us entertained for the entire length of three hours. He has given even minor characters moments to shine. Sethupathi is convincing as a hot-headed drug addict, who speaks so fast that his lips can't keep pace with the speed of speech. Fahadh Faasil's screen presence promises us that there is something big afoot and keeps us invested in the story. And there is a surprising woman character, who channels her inner Bride (Kill Bill), slaughtering a group of men with some silverware. The style and coolness she brings to the scene sent the theatre into a frenzy. The gleeful violence, special appearances, Kamal�s burst of acting moments, where he effortlessly switches between melancholy, arrogance and comedy, all make Vikram a highly satisfying watch.(more)

Kamal Haasan steps back to watch Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi have fun in Lokesh Cinematic Universe
There is not enough beef to feed the lion � in this case, there are three brilliant actors. The screenplay issue must have been this: Amar has to find the Ghost, through which he finds Santhanam. But for Vikram to go all guns blazing, it needed a stronger reason and not just the personal loss. Even in the old film, Vikram was not a sentimental character. And Lokesh yet again suffers in the sentimental scenes. (more)

Vikram is a film that has some terrific performances and makes you inquisitive about the Lokesh Kanagaraj universe. Some of the scenes don�t land, but there are plenty to cherish and rejoice in.(more)

Vikram: Hitlist gets a tad repetitive at its business end but the propulsive nature of the action and the quality of the principal performances - a few of the supporting actors, too, get their opportunities, especially Narain whose Kaithi character, Inspector Bejoy, and Vasanthi who plays a housemaid with a secret whose revelation turns out to be one of high points of Vikram: Hitlist.(more)
