When the Valimai glimpse dropped in September, 2021, fans were quick to notice a few similarities it shared with the trailer of Jackie Chan's 2004 movie New Police Story. The trailer of Valimai helped this comparison further when it was revealed that Ajith's film follows a police officer who goes against a group of high-ended thugs. 

Valimai released in theaters on February 24, 2022 and even then, the audience had stated on Twitter about how the movie reminded them of New Police Story. They have now pointed out that one Valimai scene is an exact replica of what is known as 'factory fight scene' to New Police Story fans.

It is worth mentioning here that Tamil cine audience is not a fan of such 'inspirations' and do not hold back from expressing the same to the respective film directors.
