Valimai Preview - SWOT Analysis

After almost three years, actor Ajith is all set to storm the theaters screens tomorrow (February 24, 2022) as ACP Arjun. Here's a SWOT analysis of Valimai, the film which will bring this super-cop character to the audience.

Strengths

  • Valimai is written and directed by H. Vinoth, who has previously given engaging films like Sathuranga Vettai and Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru. No less is expected of his latest action thriller too.
  • Ajith's a natural with speed bikes and cars and Valimai is that film which will bring this talent of the actor's to the big screen. At 50, Ajith has done 90% of the bike stunts all by himself and the movie promises plenty of this action in its run-time.
  • Nirav Shah's cinematography and Yuvan Shankar Raja's music are other factors to look forward to on the big screen.

Weakness

  • The biggest weakness around Valimai is the lack of buzz for a huge-star flick. This is attributed by Ajith's media-abstinence, which in this day and age can be a major deterrent. The audience-connect which actors upkeep via social media, public events or even just a regular photo (that help sell even the most mediocre content) is non-existent in Ajith's case and they seem to hurt more than help in 2022.
  • Visual effects of the film is another major area of concern, going by the promotional material released so far.

Opportunities

  • Valimai is opening on a Thursday with no competition in Tamil. This means it can only go from strength to strength till the weekend.
  • The movie has been ensured a wide release in three other languages (Telugu, Hindi, Kannada) both regionally and overseas.

Threats

  • Despite a female lead's presence, the focus seems to be more on the hero and the villain dynamic - a formula which has previously worked both ways in Ajith movies. It remains to be seen how H Vinoth has tackled this aspect sans a love-angle.
  • Movie theaters in Tamil Nadu may have started operating at 100% occupancy from February 16, 2022 but with no major holidays in sight, the box-office numbers depend purely on the film's content and good word-of-mouth.

The first day first show of Valimai begins as early as 4: 00 AM in India. The movie will be facing Bheemla Nayak (Telugu) and Gangubai Kathiawadi (Hindi) at the box-office.
