90s movies of Rajinikanth have a fan-following of their own and this has been proven time and again by the viewership these films draw, every time they are air on TV. Following Muthu, which drew in a high viewership last year, Rajini's 1999 movie Padayappa has registered high TRP in 2021. 

Padayappa aired on Sun TV recently and has recorded a TRP of 17. 75 in both urban and rural markets combined. This is a high record for a 22 year old movie, which has also registered a whopping 1,38,27000 impressions. 

Also starring Ramya Krishnan and late actors Soundarya and Sivaji Ganesan, Padayappa directed by KS Ravikumar is a family drama. The movie revolves around an engineer whose father dies of shock after he is defrauded of all property and money.

How the titular character climbs back to financial and familial success, while overcoming all obstacles placed by his one-sided lover Neelambari, is what forms the rest of the story. The film has music by A.R. Rahman.
