With cinema halls and movie theaters open in only select parts of the country, movies continue to release directly on OTT platforms in India. Below is a list of some such films along with other new OTT releases this month:

1. August 6 - Navarasa (Tamil) - Netflix

A 9-episode anthology series, Navarasa explores the nine human emotions of the Indian aesthetic theory. The star studded cast of this OTT original includes Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi, Siddharth, Parvathy, Arvind Swami, Atharvaa, Anjali, Prasanna among others.

2. August 11 - What if..? (English) - Disney Plus Hotstar

Another anthology series this month, What if..? is Marvel's first animated offering, which reimagines famous events from the MCU films and gives them unexpected twists. The first of the 10-episode series premieres on August 11, with its voice-cast including the late Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Spiderman), Natalie Portman, Hayley Atwell, Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) and Taika Waititi.

3. August 12 - Shershaah (Hindi) - Amazon Prime Video

A biographical war drama, directed by Vishnuvardhan, Shershaah follows Param Vir Chakra awardee and army captain Vikram Batra's story who sacrificed his life during the 1999 Kargil war. Siddharth Malhotra plays lead in the movie while Kiara Advani plays his love-interest.

4. August 13 - Bhuj: The Pride of India (Hindi) - Disney Plus Hotstar

Set during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the movie will recount the heroic story of how 300 ladies from a town in Gujarat helped the Indian Air Force recreate an entire airbase that was obliterated. The movie stars Ajay Devgn as Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik with Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Sharad Kellar and Nora Fatehi in pivotal roles. 

5. August 13 - Beckett (English) - Netflix

Beckett is a 2021 thriller film directed by Ferdinando Cito Filomarino and stars John David Washington, Boyd Holbrook, Vicky Krieps, and Alicia Vikander. The film follows a vacationing couple who fall victim to a violent conspiracy.

6. August 20 - Nine Perfect Strangers (English) - Amazon Prime Video

After Big Little Lies, Nicole Kidman is starring in another adaptation of Liane Moriarty's eponymous book. The first 3 episodes of the 8-episode series will drop at 5: 30 PM IST. Also starring Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Regina Hall among others, Nine Perfect Strangers is about different city dwellers resorting to a health-and-wellness resort to relieve stress but are hit with something unexpected.  

7. August 27 - Cruella (English) - Disney Plus Hotstar

The movie is about the early days of Disney's most notorious villain Cruella De Vil. Emma Stone plays the titular character who goes from a young grifter in 1970s London to the fashionable, raucous, revenge-bent character we know her to be.

8. August 27 - Vacation Friends (English) - Disney Plus Hotstar

Starring John Cena, Meredith Hagner, Lil Rel Howery and Yvonne Orji, the movie is about two pairs of couples one straight-laced and one wild crossing paths during a vacation. However, the wild couple shows up uninvited to the other one's wedding and awkwardness, chaos ensues.

9. August 29 - Annette (English, French) - Amazon Prime Video

A stand-up comedian and an opera singer are a glamourous couple under the spotlight but their life takes a turn when their daughter Annette arrives with a special gift. Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard star as a tortured, artistic couple in the movie which is directed by France's Leos Carax.
