With most of the country still under lockdown, movie-buffs are still reliant on OTT platforms for new releases. Some of the top movies and series to look out for in June 2021 are listed below:
1. Sweet Tooth (Netflix - June 4, 2021)
A DC fantasy series based on the comic book of the same name, Sweet Tooth follows the adventures of a half-human, half-deer boy in a post-apocalyptic world. Warner Bros. and Marvel alumni Robert Downey Jr. are joint producers of the show.
2. The Family Man (Amazon Prime Video - June 4, 2021)
Manoj Bajpayee is returning as the middle-class man who works as an intelligence officer and this time his assistance is required in Chennai where he has to take on a coalition threat. Samantha Akkineni makes her digital debut with the series' Season 2.
3. Dom (Amazon Prime Video - June 4, 2021)
This Brazilian crime drama series follows the real-world clashes between a police officer father named Victor and his crime lord son. The show will be available in Indian languages besides its original language of Portuguese.
4. Loki (Disney Plus Hotstar - June 9, 2021)
Marvel's highly awaited Avengers' spin-off Loki starring Tom Hiddleston is the third series to launch after Wanda Vision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Loki comes in contact with Time Variance Authority (TVA) this time and faces deletion from reality or providing assistance to TVA, for wreaking havoc in different timelines.
5. Awake (Netflix - June 9, 2021)
A mysterious catastrophe wipes out all electronics and takes away humanity's ability to sleep. While scientists race against the clock to find a cure for the unexplained insomnia, actress Gina Rodriguez's lead character Jill discovers her young daughter may be the key to salvation.
6. Skater Girl (Netflix - June 11)
Based on the story of a girl from rural Rajasthan who wants to skate on o skateboard, the movie directed by Manjari Makijany is a first of its kind in Indian movies.
7. Jagame Thandhiram (Netflix - June 18, 2021)
Jagame Thandhiram is a direct to OTT feature movie starring Dhanush in the lead. Karthik Subbaraj has directed this gangster drama which moves between Madurai and London.
8. Fatherhood (Netflix - June 18, 2021)
Ace comedian Kevin Hart is a single father who is learning to raise his daughter after the unexpected death of his wife. The heartwarming comedy-drama is directed by Paul Weitz.
9. Luca (Disney Plus Hotstar - June 18, 2021)
Luca is the story of a young sea monster who gets to spend a fun-filled summer in Italy with a human friend. The animated feature comes with voices of kid actors like Jacob Tremblay and Jack Dylan Grazer among others.
10. Sherni (Amazon Prime Video - June 18, 2021)
Sherni starring Vidya Balan is about an upright Forest Officer who strives for balance in a world of man-animal conflict. The movie is all set to premiere this month. [Update: on June 18, 2021]
