Even in the South, the OTT market has always been reigned by International players like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus Hotstar but the landscape is slowly changing. The Tamil regional market will see atleast 3 new streaming players and here are their details:
1. Sony Liv - Another digital platform owned by an International networking company (Sony Pictures), Sony Liv is looking to expand its Tamil portfolio and they are going harder than ever this Q2. Besides taking on some big Tamil movies, the streaming platform will also be hosting notable Tamil films as direct OTT releases. Sony Liv Tamil is expected to launch in June, 2021.
2. Aha (Tamil) - Aha owned partly by Tollywood producer Allu Aravind is an extremely popular online platform for Telugu movies, series and shows. Aha is looking at expanding its wings into Tamil and is expected to be up and running by August, 2021.
3. GudShow - A recently launched OTT player in Tamil, GudShow has a library of old contents with subscription and pay per view options. GudShow's official website currently works as an OTT distribution platform, where filmmakers can submit their productions for direct OTT releases.
