Oho Enthan Baby Review - A harmless and easy watch!
Bharath Vijayakumar
Krishnakumar Ramakumar's Oho Enthan Baby just wants to be a breezy film. And that it is. Made with the intention of launching debutant Rudra as its leading man, it is a simple romcom that doesn't overstuff or complicate things. It is a film that knows its priorities and taken as such, it achieves what it sets out to.

A straightforward story of a boy meets a girl, a conflict and then the resolution, Oho Enthan Baby uses making cinema within cinema as the trope to make things interesting. Vishnu Vishal in an extend cameo plays himself and so does Mysskin. So, we keep hearing references and inside jokes about films and film personalities. And both these cameos give the film a pleasant deviation as both are cracking jokes or mocking others as well as themselves. And this banter isn't out loud and mostly subtle (of course, this is under the assumption that the personalities being referred to have no qualms about it).

Rudra (as Ashwin) makes a confident debut. He seems mostly at ease in the lighter scenes. The emotional sequences aren't bad either, but you can sense a certain hurriedness in the performance in these scenes. Mithila Palkar (as Meera) in her Tamil debut comes up with a neat performance. The film itself as such has a certain easy-going vibe to it. The music aids a lot in achieving this. There aren't any laugh out loud moments as such, but there is always a hint of smile here and there.

This isn't a low stakes film if you go by the topics that are discussed. The film deals with toxic relationships, anger issues, patriarchy and emotional manipulation. But the film doesn't get heavy at any point. It wants to a breezy romcom and that is perfectly fine. But the conflicts and resolutions never feel organic. So, when Ashwin gets angry at Meera or seems to ignore her emotional outpouring, it just seems like a scene out of nowhere. You don't see signs of this earlier. There is of course a scene where it is stressed that he makes decisions for others and probably he maybe self-centered. But him yelling at her all of a sudden, feels more forced than an organic reaction. And so are the resolutions. Ashwin's father changes just because it is the climax of the film and not because he has realized his mistakes. These aren't deal breakers given the lighter mood of the film, but for the impact to have been higher, such scenes should have definitely been more convincing.

Bottomline
A harmless and easy watch with a glossy look and feel. Convenient writing and easy resolutions don't mar the film to a great extent because of the lighthearted treatment.
