On Tamil New Years' day i.e. April 14, 2021 director Shankar made an official announcement about remaking his 2005 psychological action thriller Anniyan in Hindi. The confirmation came 2 months after MovieCrow first broke the news of Shankar returning to Bollywood to direct a movie with Ranveer Singh.

We had also reported back then that the actor-director duo were waiting for clearance from Sony Pictures, the company that presented Anniyan in theaters, for remake rights. However following the Anniyan remake announcement on Wednesday, the film's original producer V. Ravichandran of Aascar Films has sent a scathing letter to director Shanakar.

Producer Ravichandran has hit out at Shankar for 'illegally' adapting a story, the rights of which still belong to his banner. Ravichandran has asked Shankar to stop all proceedings immediately and has notified that a legal notice will follow his letter.
