Since the pandemic, no major film in Tamil has released in movie theaters but that is expected to change come January, 2021. Not only are movie theaters looking to turn a new leaf in their business (though albeit only 50% occupancy), but star-vehicles like Vijay's Master and Simbu's Eeswaran have hinted a Pongal release in theater screens.

Added to this it is also being said that Dhanush's film Jagame Thandhiram which is directed by Karthik Subbaraj is also aiming at the earliest theater (most likely Janauary) release in 2021. However, theater owners are looking at avoiding clash movie release clashes and prefer only a single release atleast till the allowed-audience occupancy goes back to 100%.

It is worth mentioning here that no official announcements on the release dates of Master, Jagame Thandhiram or Eeswaran have been made yet.
