If the ending of Rajinikanth's 2019 film Petta had hinted at a sequel to its audience, director of the movie Karthik Subbaraj may have now confirmed those to be true. In an interview with BollywoodLife.com, Karthik has said that he intends on filming Petta 2 with Rajini in the lead again.
The director also disclosed that while he had not intended on making a sequel originally, the constant messages he received from fans on social media lead him to accepting the possibility of one. "As of now, I wouldn't say that I have a story of Petta 2. But it could happen in future", the director has been quoted as saying.
Produced by Sun Pictures, Petta was an action-entertainer that showcased Rajini as a Madurai villager loosing his family and best friend in an ego war. He returns 20 years later as a hostel warden to protect his best friends' son but it remains unknown what happened of him in those 20 years.
