If there was any inkling of doubt that a larger picture may be at play behind the recent income tax raids at Kollywood, it was cleared when BJP leader H. Raja went out of his way to mock actor Vijay, whose residence was among the locations to be searched by the IT officials.

Nevertheless, while a concluding report on the current searches await (initial reports confirmed nothing was seized at the Thalapathy actor's home and that his documents have been taken into account for investigation), it is interesting to note that this isn't the first time Vijay's tax returns have been public scrutinized.

Back in 2015, income tax officials raided the residence of actor Vijay and producers, financiers of Puli in the same manner, causing the cancellation of some early morning shows of the movie. However, Vijay emerged with a 'Mr. Clean' image, for IT officials found no tax evasion concerns with him eventually. They infact went on to confirm that all his taxes were paid in full despite their initial claim that "Vijay had been paying tax but not the full amount".
