Four small films namely Sundar C's "Iruttu", Dinesh's 'Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu', Kathi's 'Jada' and Harish Kalyan's 'Dhanusu Raasi Neyargalae (DRN) hit the screens on December 6. Dinesh's 'Gundu' fetched raving reviews from all quarters, Iruttu bagged decent reviews while DRN and Jada opened to mixed reviews. Among the new releases Iruttu has managed to top the Chennai city box office for the opening weekend (December 6 - 8). 

Top 5 at Chennai Box Office (Dec 6-8)

1. Iruttu - Rs. 45 lakhs ( 3 days)

2. Gundu - Rs. 43 lakhs ( 3 days)

3. ENPT - Rs. 2.93 cr (10 days)

4. Frozen 2 - Rs. 1.96 cr (17 days)

The Chennai box office is witntessing a dull run over the past few weeks as none of the films have scored big after Diwali blockbusters 'Bigil' and 'Kaithi'. Vishal's Action, Vijay Sethupathi's 'Sanga Thamizhan', Dhruv's 'Aditya Varma' and Dhanush's 'ENPT which registered a good start in its opening weekend have failed to sustain the momentum thereafter. As many as 11 small / lesser known films are lined up for release on December 13. The dry spell is expected to end with the release of Siva Karthikeyan's Hero and Karthi's 'Thambi' which are lined up for release on December 20.
