Bigil directed by Atlee which hit the screens worldwide for Diwali on October 25 set the box office on fire ever since its release. Vijay's film has grossed Rs.296+ cr worldwide and has emerged as the highest grossing Tamil film this year (2019). In TamilNadu, the film has grossed Rs. 140+ cr in 4 weeks and has earned a distributor share of Rs. 80 cr, which is said to be the highest ever collection for a Tamil film.
Producer / Distributor G. Dhananjayan had shared the details of the box office collections of Bigil on his Youtube channel which later got the fans of Ajith, Vijay and production house KJR Studios engage in a Twitter argument over box office collections. During the Twitter debate that followed with Dhananjayan, one of the spokespersons from AGS, Mr. Mali Navin has confirmed that Bigil has raked in over Rs. 80 cr share substantiating the numbers quoted by him.

While fans may rejoice over the film achieving a new milestone in the film industry, the distributors on the other hand were able to achieve break-even or make marginal profits only. As reported by us earlier, Bigil's TN distribution rights were sold to Seven Screen Studio for Rs. 72 cr who had reportedly sold the rights to other distributors (territory-wise) for Rs. 83 cr.
Despite earning huge numbers and setting a record, the film could not be termed as a 'hit' in TN because of its high-priced theatrical rights as most of the distributors just made break-even. However the film had been a profitable venture for the exhibitors with large footfalls which brought in additional revenue in terms of parking charges and refreshment costs.
The film is into its fourth week now. Since the new releases 'Action' and 'Sanga Thamizhan' have failed to impress the audience, Bigil will be continuing its steady run in theatres along with the other Diwali release 'Kaithi' for another week.
