The Diwali weekend is officially here and movie releases this week are all festive specials. From sports entertainers to reincarnation comedy, here's a look at how well these new films have fared.
- Bigil (Tamil): A sports-entertainer tailor-made for Vijay fans, Bigil is about a talented football player sidetracked into violence getting a shot back at the game after 7 years. The movie even with its loops and holes stands as critics' and audience's favourite this week. (Review Here)
- Kaithi (Tamil): The film that has been garnering all the rave reviews this week, Kaithi starring Karthi, Narain, George Maryan, and others is about a prisoner trying to protect a few cops from a group of gangsters while also on his way to meet his daughter for the first time. The movie has been praised for its gripping narration and impeccable performances. A must watch if you like non-fussy action movies with emotions as well (Review Here)
- Housefull 4 (Hindi): The fourth edition of the Housefull franchise sticks to its brand of mindless comedy, only this time with the theme of reincarnation. However, the movie has been criticized for its tried and tested formula and jokes that borderline on crass humour.
- Saand Ki Aankh (Hindi): A biographical story of how two sisters-in-law from a patriarchial society turned into India’s oldest sharpshooters, Saand Ki Aankh comes with powerful performances of Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar. Makes for one inspiring watch.
- Made in China (Hindi): Rajkumar Rao, Paresh Rawal, Gajraj Rao, Sumeet Vyas and Boman Irani have all been praised for their performances in the movie but their investigative story of a murder which then turns into a flashback comedy hasn't had too many takers. This could be alluded to a loose narration and mis-handling of a taboo subject.
