Movies This Week: Photograph, Hamid take center-stage!

This is one of those weeks where movie theaters are running films which you might not have heard before. The options are multiple but only a few make the cut to our list of recommendations. A look into the films this time:

  • Wonder Park (English): An animated movie about a young girl's imagination of an amusement park coming alive and how she saves it whilst battling her own depression, Wonder Park has definitely hit it out of the park. This family friendly movie can definitely be given a try this weekend, if one likes animated films.

  • Jessie, Where is the Venkatalakshmi (Telugu): The two Telugu movies releases this week are both horror films and neither of them have made an impact considerable enough to be recommended for a watch. The initial response to Ashima Narwal starrer Jessie has been mixed where as  the ratings for Raai Laxxmi starrer Where is the Venkatalaksmi have been below average.

  • Photograph (Hindi): The Nawazzudin Siddiqui, Sanya Malhotra starrer comes as a saviour in a sea of average content and the movie which is a slow-burn romantic tale between a street photographer and a pressurized recluse youngster makes it to the top of our recommended watch this week.

  • Mere Pyare Prime Minister (Hindi): Raykesh Om Prakash Mehra has addressed the concept of need of Toilets in India and he has gone about it using a son who sets out to meet the Prime Minister after his mother gets raped during open defecation. The movie's story has not been told in the most engaging manner, which is the only reason to set aside this otherwise must-watch.

  • Hamid (Hindi): Adapted from a play, Hamid is about a small boy from the chaotic Kashmir who builds a phone friendship with a CRPF Jawan believing him to be God. The movie is a must watch for its gripping tale, for its stellar performances and its scope to the ground reality in the war-terrorized state of our country.

  • Varikkuzhiyile Kolapathakam (Malayalam): The story of a policeman turned pastor venturing out to prove a murder, Varikkyshiyile Kolapathakam which is a critically acclaimed movie from February is now in theaters of Tamil Nadu. The film would make for a good engaging watch this weekend.
