Petta Vs Viswasam: The Big Face Off

On January 10, the box office is all set to explode with the release of two biggies -- Rajinikanth's Petta and Ajith's Viswasam. There are polarized opinions about this clash. While a section of the trade feels that the clash will eat into each other's collections, another section believes that it is better for the industry.

Petta

An interesting trivia is that this will be Rajinikanth's first Pongal release after the blockbuster Baasha, which released in 1995. Coincidentally, the trailer of the film promises to showcase Superstar with the same swag that was seen in Baasha. As the charismatic and effervescent hostel warden Kaali, Rajinikanth is sure to set the screen on fire.

Petta also boasts of an ensemble cast including Vijay Sethupathi, Simran, Trisha, Bobby Simha, Sasikumar and Nawazzudin Siddiqui. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, who is one of the biggest Superstar fans himself, the movie has music by Anirudh.

Viswasam

With Viswasam, Ajith is teaming up with director Siva for the 4th time. Except for Gautham Menon (Yennai Arindhaal), Ajith hasn't been directed by any other director in the last 5 years. Going by the trailer, Viswasam promises to be a full-fledged rural entertainer, and it would be interesting to see how the movie differs from Veeram. Viswasam has Nayanthara as the leading lady and Jagapathi Babu as the antagonist. Imman has scored music for the film.

Although Petta and Viswasam are hitting the screens on the same day, both the films are expected to take a grand opening across the globe. Since the movies are releasing on January 10, the Friday before Pongal (January 15 - Tuesday), there is sufficient time for the audience to watch both of them.
